So it looks like The Pirate Bay is going to be sold for 4.7 million pounds.

The Pirate Bay Sold For 4.7m

First, I am surprised that its founders agreed to sell the site in the first place. I thought that they fought the good fight in court over the accusations that they were aiding copyright infringement.

Personally, I disagree with copyright infringement, and only download music from artists that have offered their songs for free online, i.e. Radiohead’s latest album “In Rainbows.”

More Sad News: Billy Mays – A Marketing Legend – Passes

June 28th, 2009

Again, the past few days have been tragic. Billy Mays, the famous pitchman, passed away at the age of 50.

At first I thought it was a joke, but after reading about it on the major media news sources, I accepted the news.

Just a few nights ago I was watching his interview with his business partner Sully on the Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien.

How Michael Jackson Temporarily Annexed The Internet

June 26th, 2009

Michael Jackson’s death is certainly a tragedy, but it’s amazing how quickly the internet almost collapsed after his death.

A number of major websites reported a vast increase in traffic and networks were bogged down.

Of course, this shows how important the internet has become as a way to not only get information, but to share our most valuable opinions with others.

Although, I understand the significance of Michael Jackson.   I am a fan of his artistry, there are few people who have changed the music world as much as he did, for the better.  And, I am certainly thankful for that.

Why Twitter Is Useful For Anyone

June 23rd, 2009

I introduced one of my friends to twitter yesterday. I tried convincing her to add a picture for a more personal feel. After about an hour of playing with it, she concluded, “This is a waste of time. I don’t think I’m going to use it. There’s nothing on there. ”

To be honest, I had a difficult time convincing her that it was worth her time and effort to use twitter. She isn’t interested in online business or business in general (at the moment anyway) so she doesn’t have anything to promote.

When she saw that I had over 1,300 followers, she wondered how I obtained that many, and whether I knew all of them. She has a Myspace account but only adds the people she knows. To her, it doesn’t make sense to have a bunch of strangers on your friends list. Seems logical enough.

Local Businesses Probably Want to Hire You

June 23rd, 2009

Selling internet marketing products and services to local offline business is a huge unfilled niche that is going to only grow. Many local business owners need to leverage the internet for a website, local online directory listings, search engine optimization for their keywords, an autoresponder, Adwords campaigns, and many other tools and services.

There’s so much work in this field that I think it will eventually become a major industry, just like the software and web programming industry.

A Job Anyone Can Do During A Recession

June 16th, 2009

I know that there’s a lot of people who would imagine the easiest thing to do is to find another job if they lose theirs.

But, there might be a service or product that you can offer your local community in the mean time that would pay a few bills.  I don’t recommend selling something that everyone is selling.

What Qualifies As Plagarism?

June 11th, 2009

Among online marketers there’s always the shady or ignorant group.  And they often steal other people’s content.  Now, I’m not going to say I’m holier than thou because I write my own content and do research.  But, to me its not very sensible to steal or even just reword other people’s content.

If you care even a little bit about your reputation, and if you care about building a long term business, you’re not going to waste time even thinking about stealing content.

Or you could do this:

How To Turn $500 Into $50,000 In One Weekend

June 10th, 2009

I have been a member of WarriorForum.com, an internet marketing forum, for 4 years and I still get surprised every now and then.  One of the more recent members started a thread about how he made $50,000 in one weekend in an online marketing seminar by using offline marketing methods like handing out flyers and direct mail.  It sounds silly, but I have to believe this guy did what he says he did.
